DREAM JOB! International Home School Teacher based in Panama
Full time, home-schooling role with an international family based in Panama.
· expected to teach (on average) 6 hours per day, 6 days per week,
· working alongside a team of specialists for science, technology, sport and Spanish.
· Possibility to travel with the family to Europe throughout the year
The students are two lovely and engaging boys aged 11 and 13, who both have some degree of learning difficulty, so the tutor will need experience and understanding of these issues. The elder boy has dyslexia and will need a warm, supportive and encouraging teacher who will not allow his learning difficulties to stand in the way of accessing a rich and challenging curriculum.
Tutor should be confident in the delivery of the maths curriculum to at least a 14-year-old level, whilst still recognising the need to practise and consolidate number work at an 11-year old level. The younger boy may have some elements of dyslexia, too, but is more prone to display ADHD-type behaviours
The boys have been home-educated since 2012 by UK tutors; potential tutors will not, however, need to be tied to a UK curriculum. The focus has been – and continues to be – on key literacy and numeracy skills, which are after all international.
Both boys are still working below chronological age in all areas of literacy. The ideal candidate will therefore understand the “nuts and bolts” of reading and writing but will still be able to nurture the boys’ increasing enjoyment of reading higher-level texts and producing their own creative writing. It is absolutely vital that candidates have an excellent standard of written and spoken English as they will be serving as the model for the children, whose home language is not English (although their spoken English is fluent).
